An additional €316 million will be assigned to the health-care sector this year, the Health and Finance Ministries confirmed to TASR. The health insurance companies, which drew attention to its need together with hospitals and outpatient departments, welcomed this step.
The Finance Ministry released the money based on a request for a budgetary measure from the Health Ministry, which declared that Health Minister Michal Palkovic will inform about the details later this week.
According to the health insurance companies, additional financing will occur through an increase in the state's payment for insured persons, which has increased to 4.5 percent. They will receive the money in four installments. Both state-run health insurer VsZP and private health insurance company Union confirmed that the first installment was paid to them in September. "The insurance company will receive further installments as part of additional financing in October to December 2023," said VsZP spokeswoman Eva Peterova.
According to Union, the reason for the additional financing was the lack of funds in the public health insurance system.
