The police have caught as many as 5,659 cyclists and scooter riders driving under the influence of alcohol or other psychotropic substances so far in 2023, the Police Corps Presidium has told TASR. The police explained that such traffic participants can be fined up to €650 at the scene depending on the gravity of the offence committed. They can't be banned from riding bicycles and scooters, however. The police do not keep statistics on violations of other road traffic rules by cyclists and scooter riders, TASR learnt.
