Almost half of Slovaks trust banks, making them the third most trustworthy organizations in Slovakia after towns/municipalities and the armed forces, and putting them ahead of state institutions, churches, commercial entities, non-profit organizations and politicians, according to a survey conducted by Ipsos agency in September. The survey was carried out on behalf of the Slovak Banking Association (SBA) on a representative sample of 1,026 respondents between September 15-19. According to the survey results, 45 percent of people in Slovakia trust banks, with more than two-thirds of the respondents claiming that they consider their deposits in banks to be safe.
"However, it also showed that if banks were in the red or didn't make adequate profits, up to 8 out of 10 Slovaks wouldn't deposit their savings in them and wouldn't entrust them with their finances. The respondents in the survey only responded to a fictitious bank-instability scenario, as the banking sector in Slovakia has been among the most stable in Europe for a long time," said SBA executive director Milena Korenova.
