On Wednesday, the government approved a zoning system for the Velka Fatra National Park. According to the Environment Ministry, the aim is to provide a favourable status for protected objects. The no-intervention area will be increased. The ministry added that the move would contribute towards remedying the shortcomings identified in the European Commission's action. This refers to the lack of protection for habitats of the western capercaillie, also known as the wood grouse, in Slovakia. The regulation will enter into force on the 1st of January, 2024.
