Slovakia reintroduces controls at the border with Hungary

Poland, the Czech Republic and Austria have introduced random temporary checks at their borders with Slovakia as of Tuesday midnight. The measure is to last ten days, but may be extended.

Addressing the issue at Wednesday’s government session, the government has temporarily restored controls at Slovakia's internal border with Hungary. They will be in force from Thursday (5 October) and are due to last until 14 October.

The proposed measure is intended to reduce the number of illegal migrants who only transit through Slovakia to other EU countries.
