Car maker unperturbed by possible Russian sanctions

The sanctions affecting countries as a result of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine will have no impact on production in the Trnava-based PSA Peugeot Citroen car plant, TASR learnt on Tuesday.

“We're one of the few lucky companies to be minimally affected by the sanctions against Russia. We produced around 800 cars that were sold to Russian customers in the first half of this year. This makes for a little more than 100 cars per month that were sold to customers in Russia”, said the plant's spokesman Peter Švec after a meeting between the plant's top representatives and Prime Minister Robert Fico. It has been reported that Russia is mulling imposing bans on car imports from the West. Fico said that he's aiming to hold talks with the other carmakers that are present in Slovakia. “I'll have more meetings with the car plants' representatives...I can indeed confirm that PSA Peugeot Citroen is very stable. Fortunately, the company's market orientation is such that it wouldn't incur major damage should the sanctions be imposed, and it would manage to place its products on other markets”, said the premier.
