The Smer-SD party won the general election on Saturday on 22.94 percent of the votes, gaining 42 seats in the 150-member House, with the State Electoral Commission confirming the official results at a news conference on Sunday.
Smer-SD sees no reason to hold negotiations on forming the government until it is tasked by President Zuzana Caputova to do so, party leader Robert Fico (on the photo) said on Sunday, adding that they are waiting for a phone call from the head of the state. In the upcoming two weeks, Fico wants to hold negotiations on programmes with other parties. "Only after reaching an agreement on this can we talk about forming a government," he said.
