Wheat growers will receive exceptional support in the form of compensation worth €15.7 million for imports of cereals and oilseeds from Ukraine. According to Agriculture Minister Jozef Bires, Slovakia has decided to allocate €5.24 million in EU aid. They will also receive additional domestic financial support of up to 200% of the EU aid to support wheat farmers only. The deadline for disbursement is the end of the year. The logistics of the payment are automatic, so farmers don't have to apply.
The head of the Agricultural Payment Agency (PPA), Jozef Kiss, said that for the first time the agency was providing support without farmers having to apply for it. About 8,000 farms have been identified as eligible for wheat compensation.
