Survey: 31 percent of employers plan to create new jobs in autumn

Slovak companies are planning the most robust round of hiring since early 2022 this autumn, with 31 percent expecting the ranks of their employees to increase, while 17 percent predict a decrease and 47 percent don't expect any major changes, a regular quarterly survey by Manpower Group Slovakia has shown.

"Over the past year, employers have been rather more reluctant to hire new employees. Even though they were aware that they would need reinforcements, many companies postponed recruitment. However, the results of the latest survey show that companies are planning to create more jobs in the autumn," said Manpower Group general manger Zuzana Rumiz.

The net labour market index in Slovakia, which is the difference between the number of employers who plan to increase the number of their employees and those who plan to decrease their number, adjusted for seasonal fluctuations, stands at plus 15 percent. The highest net labour index was recorded in Bratislava (plus 25 percent), followed by central and western Slovakia (both plus 11 percent), while the lowest figure was in eastern Slovakia (plus 6 percent). The most rapid growth in the number of new jobs (net labour market index plus 32 percent) is planned by firms in the communications services sector.

This is an increase of 13 percentage points when compared to the previous quarter. Year-on-year, it's an increase of 16 percentage points. Companies in the finance and real-estate sector are also expecting more robust hiring (plus 26 percent). Most of the hiring is planned by small companies with up to 50 employees, in whose case the net index is plus 16 percent. This is an improvement of 4 percentage points quarter-on-quarter. Large firms employing more than 250 people had a net index of plus 14 percent, but this figure was down 4 percentage points quarter-on-quarter.
