A total of 91 blood donors were registered at the Báthory's Drop of Blood event, named after the infamous Countess Elizabeth Báthory and held in Čachtice (Trenčín region) on Saturday. Blood donors were treated to meal vouchers, courtesy of the National Transfusion Service, that they could swap for a bottle of red wine called Báthory's Blood.
Countess Elizabeth Báthory de Ecsed, member of the renowned Báthory family living in the 16-17th century Kingdom of Hungary at the Čachtice Castle in present-day Slovakia, has been labelled the most prolific female serial killer in history. She was accused of torturing and killing hundreds of girls, allegedly bathing in the blood of virgins to retain her youth.
