Bankruptcy courts initiated 71 bankruptcy proceedings and declared 44 companies bankrupt in August, the highest figure seen since January 2018, FinStat analyst Pavol Suda has informed TASR. Almost two in five bankruptcies were so-called small bankruptcies, while the biggest one concerned Kosice-based investment group Axe Capital Group. At the same time, courts permitted two restructurings. According to Suda, entities that went bankrupt in August owed almost €4 million to the public sector. "This time, however, the major part of their debts relates to unpaid premiums to public insurance funds, with construction company Projekt Kanskasporr, known under the original trading name Cestne stavby Liptovsky Mikulas (CSLM), being the biggest debtor in these terms," he said. Almost 300 people will lose their jobs at CSLM, which is more than half of the total number of people employed by all the companies that went bankrupt in August. FinStat's figures further show that companies that went bankrupt in August owe almost €1.9 million in taxes.
