The Human Rights Institute has lodged a criminal complaint against Milan Majerský, the leader of the Christian Democrats (KDH), for comments made during a political debate in which he referred to LGBTI as a scourge damaging the country. The Institute considers such statements extremely dangerous and detrimental to the citizens of Slovakia, especially in light of a terrorist attack on the LGBTI+ community in Bratislava a year ago. Majerský has apologized for his comments on social media, clarifying that he was referring to an ideology rather than specific individuals when using terms like "scourge" or "calamity." Nevertheless, representatives of the LGBT+ community find his apology insufficient, and the public defender of rights emphasizes that attacks on fundamental human rights and freedoms should not be part of political campaigns or struggles.
