US company to supply power plants in Slovakia

Slovakia will no longer be dependent on Russian nuclear fuel. Power utility Slovenske elektrarne (SE) and US nuclear technology company Westinghouse have signed a contract for supplying fuel to nuclear power plants in Slovakia. The aim of the agreement, which is the result of an international tender, is to diversify the supply of nuclear fuel for power plants with VVER 440 reactors in Slovakia, said Slovak electricity utility on Friday. The first fuel deliveries are expected to arrive within one year of the fuel's use being approved. VVER 440 reactors were produced in the former Soviet Union.
