Repeated attempts on Tuesday to convene a special session of Parliament called by Smer to discuss last week's National Crime Agency Operation Resolution ended in failure as MPs once again failed to reach a quorum. Parliament also failed to start the session on Monday for the same reason. The resolution went on to say that Parliament "warns NAKA and USP with concern" that the police operation would raise serious doubts abroad about the functioning of the democratic establishments in Slovakia. On Thursday 17 August, NAKA filed charges under Operation Resolution against a number of people, including top SIS and NBU officials. The charges relate to a criminal group that obstructed investigations into corruption and other criminal cases, created the impression that witnesses were being manipulated by investigators and attempted to discredit law enforcement. Two other police officers were charged with abuse of authority for revenge. The Security Council met on Friday 18 August to discuss the situation. Both the President and the Prime Minister stated that there was no coup and that the institutions in place were functioning normally. They see no room for action against those involved in the case until the courts and prosecutors decide on the legality of criminal proceedings.
