Launch of European Electronic Toll Service by 2024

Slovakia is considering launching the European Electronic Toll Service (EETS) between 2023 and 2024. Premier Ludovit Odor and Transport Minister Pavol Lancaric visited the National Highway Company (NDS) to evaluate the feasibility of this timeline. They are currently testing the service and accrediting its four providers: Eurowag, ITIS, Telepass, and Toll4Europe. The goal is to lower toll collection costs to under 15%. Odor and Lancaric expressed confidence in achieving the January 2024 launch and foresee a transition period for accreditation until the end of that year. Successful EETS implementation could lead to the creation of a state-owned national toll system, expected to be ready by the end of 2024.
