Housing for young people is less affordable than years ago

Young people keep relatively little of their earnings. Young Slovaks have been staying in their parents' home for a long time, on average, until around the age of thirty. Despite the fact that they mostly don’t have to take care of housing and the costs associated with it, they save relatively little of their earnings. About a fifth of young people do not save at all. This follows from a survey by the 2muse agency for 365.bank on a sample of 1,002 respondents.

According to Eurostat data, Slovak youth are well above the average of the countries of the European Union (EU) in the age at which they leave their parents. While the European average age for young women is 25.5 years and for men 27.4 years, Slovak women leave home on average at the age of 29.5 years and men even later, at the age of 32. Only Croats (33 years old) are higher in the EU. On the contrary, Finns leave the "parental nest" as early as 21 years old.
