Level of coronavirus in waste water up in two regions

The level of novel coronavirus in waste water in the 31st calendar week of this year grew slightly in Zilina and Presov regions, according to the results of waste-water monitoring published by the Public Health Office (UVZ) on its website on Wednesday.

Fourteen waste-water samples were tested during the above period, including six that were found to be negative for the virus. Increased levels of the virus were detected in four samples (28.58 percent), while levels were unchanged or lower in the remaining ten samples.

The presence of coronavirus in waste water has been monitored on a weekly basis since May 2021. A total of 4,481 samples have been examined since then (up to the 31st calendar week of 2023), of which 4,365 (97.41 percent) were found to be positive.

Due to the improved epidemiological situation, the collection and examination of waste water samples was reduced as of June 19.
