Slovak bishops call for prayers for peace

Slovak bishops have asked the country to come together to pray for peace and reconciliation for nations which are currently enduring a large increase in violence. The call was announced at the Bishops' Conference of Slovakia (KBS) on its website, encouraging prayer between August 15 to 22.

Slovak politicians meanwhile are again asking all sides to work together in order to facilitate the peaceful resolution of world conflicts. The bishops drew attention to the increasing levels of violence in a number of countries; in particular Ukraine, Iraq, and the Holy Land. “In particular, the persecution of Christians touches us. Those who are exposed to violence and killing, and those forced to leave their homes. For these reasons, we have announced an urgent request to all believers and people of good will to pray for world peace and reconciliation between peoples”, writes the announcement. For these reasons, a special week of prayer and reconciliation was announced over the period of August 15 to 22, 2014. “We invite parishes, communities, and individuals to join in common prayer for peace in the world”, continued the message.
