Slovak MEPs send a letter to the Hungarian head of diplomacy

Slovak MEP Ivan Stefanec (on the photo) has initiated an official letter to Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó. It was also signed by seven other Slovak MEPs. Stefanec is the head of the Slovak delegation of the European People's Party (EPP) in the European Parliament. In an open letter, they reminded the Hungarian head of diplomacy that in democratic countries police authorities operate without political interference.

The Slovak MEPs also drew Szijjártó's attention to the fact that Slovakia is 28 places ahead of Hungary in Transparency International's corruption perception ranking. Stefanec was joined by Vladimír Bilčík, Martin Hojsík, Eugen Jurzyca, Miriam Lexmann, Peter Pollák, Michal Šimečka and Michal Wezik in sending the messages to Budapest. They stated: "Your statements are not conducive to the good neighbourly relations we want. Good relations are based on mutual respect and respect for the rules".
