More cycling routes coming to Southern Slovakia

This year will see the opening of a new cycleway between the southern Slovak towns of Komárno and Kravany nad Dunajom over the Danube. The route will offer 29 kilometres of cycleways loosely following the Danube River. The implementation of the new paths is expected to be completed by the end of August.

The paths are part of a joint project between selected Slovak towns and Hungarian towns on the opposite side of the Danube River, aimed at encouraging tourism numbers. The finished project will offer a total length of 40 km of cycle ways, an extension planned to reach the Slovak village of Štúrovo in one direction, and Číčov in the other, with a large portion of funds coming from the European Union. “The Danube River has the tourism potential and we have the capital available so we have to make the best use of it”, said the mayor of Kravany nad Dunajom, Gabriel Duka. The mayor believes that the cycle track will appeal to both foreign tourists as well as citizens from the surrounding regions.
