Police charge son for extorting money from parents

Police have laid charges against a local man in the eastern Slovak town of Kežmarok for blackmailing and extorting money from his parents for a number of years.

The Prešov regional police spokeswoman Jana Migalová reported that a 36-year-old man known as Rastislav was accused by an investigator of the District Police Headquarters in Kežmarok for the crime of extortion, for which if found guilty, could see the accused face imprisonment for between four to ten years. “To date, the investigation has revealed that this Kežmarok man, from 2009 to today blackmailed his family in their apartment. The accused repeatedly and with the threat of violence asked for money which was never returned”, the police spokesperson said. The accused man has been placed in a police holding cell while criminal proceedings are underway.
