Cost of tolling to be reduced to below 15%

The government aims to reduce the cost of collecting tolls to below 15 per cent by 2024. This was announced by Prime Minister Ludovit Odor and Transport Minister Pavol Lancaric at a press conference on Wednesday.

The aim is to reduce the percentage cost of the system, or the percentage of each euro sold that goes to the toll system operator. According to the minister, public procurement for the supply of the toll system and toll services are two different things.

One is the IT platform and the other is the on-board units and customer service. Both Odor and Lancaric said that a meeting has been scheduled for next Wednesday (16 August) at the National Roads Company (NDS). According to Lancaric, the next stage will be to buy part of SkyToll, taking over some 190 employees, the information system and the vehicles.

The minister believes that the introduction of the European electronic toll collection service will mean that Slovakia will become part of the European toll system. According to him, four suppliers of these services are currently being tested and accredited. None of them will have an advantage as they will start their operations at the same time on 1 January 2024.
