Electricity prices would not have to rise significantly and across-the-board assistance to households has been agreed upon. In the case of gas, the Government's strategy is to help households that need it. Slovak Prime Minister Ludovit Odor explained that helping everyone is financially unsustainable for the state and at the same time such an approach does not make consumers save money. The premier added that the current government would probably only prepare measures and the new cabinet would approve them.
"As it is tied to the state budget, the amount of aid will also depend on the intentions of the next government," stated Odor, adding that his cabinet wants to prepare, together with the budget, a scheme that won't be across-the-board and therefore won't have such an impact on public finances. However, the definition of vulnerable households should depend on the future government, he noted.
