Poll: Smer on top followed by Progresívne Slovensko

Had a general election taken place at the turn of July and August, it would have been won by the Smer-SD party on 20.3 percent of the votes, ahead of the non-parliamentary Progresívne Slovaensko (PS) on 16.9 percent and another extra-parliamentary party, Hlas-SD on 13.4 percent, according to a poll carried out by Ipsos agency for Pravda daily.
 
Another six parties would have made it into Parliament: the Republika party - 8.8 percent, the 'OLANO - 7.9 percent, Sloboda a Solidarita (SaS) - 6.7 percent, Sme rodina - 5.6 percent, the extra-parliamentary Christian Democrats (KDH) - 5.4 percent, and the Slovak National Party (SNS) - 5.2 percent.
 
The parties that wouldn't have reached the necessary 5-percent threshold to make it into Parliament include Demokrati - 2.6 percent, the LSNS - 2.2 percent, the ethnic Hungarian Alliance-Szovetseg party - 1.9 percent, Modrí, Most-Hid' - 1.6 percent, and Hungarian Forum - 0.5 percent.
 
The poll was carried out on a sample of 1,001 respondents between July 26 - August 1.
