The Slovak Foreign and European Affairs Ministry decided to give €20,000 from the SlovakAid programme to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). It currently serves as the main entity for providing humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip.
The Ministry’s statement says that by providing the aid, Slovakia expresses solidarity with the suffering of the Palestinian people caused by the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The recent round of violence in the Gaza Strip that began on July 8 has claimed the lives of more than 1,900 Palestinians - mainly civilians - while around 10,000 Palestinians have suffered injuries. Israel has reported the death of 67 people on its side, including three civilians.
