Cooperation with local government inevitable for placing EU funds

Without effective cooperation with local authorities, it isn't possible to meaningfully allocate EU funds to the regions, Vice-premier for the Recovery and Resilience Plan and Use of EU Funds Livia Vasakova said following a meeting with Trencin region mayors in Dubnica nad Vahom on Tuesday.

"We're discussing with local government representatives and at the same time projecting that feedback into individual calls. An example is the call for the restoration of historical and heritage-protected buildings. The call ended on Monday (July 31) and we're registering extraordinary interest from local governments. We're looking for ways to be able to announce a similar call from Slovakia operational programme so that projects that were already prepared at the level of local government won't remain in the 'drawer' and can be used," emphasised Vasakova.

According to the vice-premier, Slovakia has a huge investment debt, estimated at around €40 billion. European money can help mitigate it, investments go into energy efficiency, infrastructure, but also human capital. The government's priority is the efficient use of funds.
