Household energy prices may rise by tens of percent

Households face a jump in energy prices from next year. According to the Office for the Regulation of Network Industries, electricity could rise by 81 per cent and gas by 110 per cent. This would happen if the government does not intervene.

The average household risks paying tens of euros a month for electricity and gas from next year. However, these calculations are still an estimate by the office. If the government does not take extraordinary measures, households will pay much more.

For an average household consuming around 2.5 megawatt-hours per year, this would mean an increase of between 30 and 35 euros per month. For gas, the increase would be around €50 per month. Actual electricity and gas prices for households will be set according to movements on the exchanges.

The Ministry of Finance has therefore announced more targeted measures next year. In the end, the price of electricity may not rise as much as the regulator's preliminary calculations suggest. The state has an agreement with Slovak power plants.
