Bratislava Transport Company (DPB) has become the first operator in Slovakia with a fleet of hydrogen buses. The first four hydrogen buses will enter service on Tuesday (1 August). They will be used on line 75, which connects Krasnany and Dolne hony. This was announced by Martin Rybansky, chairman of the board of DPB, at a briefing on Monday.
The company has tendered for 40 hydrogen buses. According to him, the hydrogen buses are one of the projects trying to introduce new green technologies. Compared to electric buses, there is no need to build charging infrastructure in depots. Filling up with hydrogen takes only a few minutes. The bus can travel 500 kilometres; the minimum guaranteed range is 350 kilometres. The operator is currently working on its own refuelling project.
The final concept should be ready in the coming months. Barbora Lukacova, state secretary at the Ministry of Investment, said this could be an example for other cities in Slovakia. She said hydrogen buses could be used in the regions of Kosice, Trencin and Banska Bystrica.
