Electricity and gas prices to skyrocket without Gov’t intervention
If the Government does not embrace any extraordinary measures, end point electricity charges for Slovak households are likely to swell by 81 percent on average in 2024. Furthermore, under such circumstances, gas prices might go up even by 110%, the Authority for the Regulation of Network Industries (URSO) reported. Slovak households have one of the cheapest electricity and gas prices in the EU.

According to the Authority, current energy prices for households and other consumer groups are kept down mostly by extraordinary state measures. It points to the provision of cheaper electricity for households under the contract with Slovenské Elektrárne power utility as well as the existence of energy price caps and financial compensations. The measures in question played a large role in minimising the impacts of the energy crisis on vulnerable energy consumers in 2023. In reaction to the situation, the regulatory authority drafted several proposals with an aim to ensure acceptable energy prices for Slovak consumers in 2024.
