Had a general election taken place in late July, it would have been won by the opposition Smer-SD party with 21.5 percent of the votes, ahead of the extra-parliamentary Progressive Slovakia (PS) party at 17.1 percent and the extra-parliamentary Hlas-SD party at 12.1 percent, TASR has learnt from a poll carried out by Median SK agency for RTVS.
According to the poll, carried out on a sample of 1,010 respondents between July 21 and 26, four more political parties would have made it into Parliament: Republica at 9.7 percent, Sme Rodina with 7.4 percent, SaS on 6.5 percent and the Christian Democrats (KDH) with 6.2 percent.
Parties that would not pass the 5% threshold needed to enter parliament include the coalition of OLANO, Za ludi and Christian Union (5.3 percent), which needs at least 7 percent to get into parliament. Also left outside the House would also have been the Slovak National Party SNS (4.2 percent), Democrats (3.4 percent) and the ethnic-Hungarian Alliance party (2.4 percent).
When the votes are converted into seats in parliament, the numbers would have been as follows: Smer-SD - 40, PS - 32, Hlas-SD - 23, Republic - 18, Sme rodina - 14, SaS - 12, and KDH - 11.
