Slovakia has expressed support at the EU level for Ukraine and its efforts to export grain to world markets. This was stated by Slovak Agriculture Minister Jozef Bires after Tuesday's meeting of the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Brussels.
Bires expressed Slovakia's full support for the transport of Ukrainian commodities through solidarity corridors. The minister reiterated that it is a political priority for Slovakia to assist Ukraine with the sale of its grain, but under conditions that would not cause complications in the Slovak food market.
The minister also provided an update on the situation with grain in Slovakia. According to him, Slovak farmers are experiencing an increased harvest of ten to 12 percent compared to the average of the last five years, which is very positive. However, on the other hand, the storage space for grain is limited. Bíreš further explained that the sale of this grain is quite limited given the current prices.
