The number of paediatricians quitting outpatient emergency services is increasing. As of Thursday (20 July), 409 have registered. Doctors call for adopting the proposed regulation to prevent children's outpatient departments from collapsing. Health Minister Palkovic suggests shortening opening hours, but it will be discussed in a special parliamentary session. The situation worsens as the first paediatricians' notice period ends on 1 August. Some outpatient clinics could close this autumn without new doctors. The main reason for dismissals is an unapproved proposal by the Ministry of Health, allowing working hours' reduction from 10 pm to 8 pm. Doctors are working up to sixteen hours a day, half of them retired.
