The issue of human encounters with wild bears and their loss of fear of humans should not be underestimated or ignored. President Zuzana Caputova said this after a meeting with Environment Minister Milan Chrenko on Monday. She also believes the concerns of people living in mountain and foothill areas are justified, as several recent bear encounters have resulted in serious injuries. Caputova said the Environment Minister informed her of both short-term and long-term measures being prepared. First and foremost, the capacity of intervention teams will be increased. The police and hunters will also be involved in tracking and intervening if a bear becomes dangerous to people and human settlements. The President added that she and the Minister had also discussed this year's upcoming climate summit. According to her, it will be an opportunity for the international community to discuss global challenges, especially solutions to mitigate climate change.
