Around 1,600 households in the Banska Bystrica region (central Slovakia) are still without power following severe thunderstorms. The heavy rain that hit the Zilina and Banska Bystrica regions on Monday afternoon has caused widespread power cuts, with around 20,000 households affected. Firefighters in the region had 31 calls in less than three hours. A total of 52 professional and 39 volunteer firefighters were involved. The most common tasks were removing fallen trees, pumping water out of flooded buildings or dealing with a house fire caused by lightning.
