On Monday, Slovakia is remembering 31 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Slovak Sovereignty. The resolution was adopted on July 17, 1992 by the Slovak National Council. As part of it, Slovak MPs demanded in acclamation the independence of Slovakia. The Declaration was part of the process of the division of Czechoslovakia into two separate states, which culminated in the establishment of the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic on 1 January 1993.
