Eighth Vrba-Wetzler Memorial March starts
On Monday, 30 people started the pilgrimage from the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in Poland to central Slovak Žilina as part of the eighth annual Vrba-Wetzler Memorial March.

It follows the roughly 130-kilometre route taken by two Slovak Jews, Rudolf Vrba (Walter Rosenberg) and Alfred Wetzler, who escaped from the concentration camp in April 1944. This year’s edition is the first since the pandemic. The organisers are returning to the original format of two summer marches. The second will begin on August 7.
