Prime Minister reacts to criticism by towns and regions

Prime Minister Ludovit Odor declared on Thursday that the government is willing to provide aid to towns and regions affected by rising energy prices, as long as the state budget allows. Odor spoke in response to the criticism by the parliamentary opposition and towns and villages from earlier in the day. Prime Minister mentioned a mid-year report on public finances, which will determine the extent of assistance the government can offer.

Earlier on Thursday, representatives of the regions and towns were originally supposed to hold talks with Prime Minister Ludovit Odor. Odor cancelled the talks a day before, however, with the explanation that the government no longer controls enough financial resources to pay compensations to the towns and villages. The scrapping of the meeting was criticised by both the Slovak Towns and Villages Association (ZMOS) and the SK8 Association of Regions.
