The sale and use of certain pyrotechnic articles in Slovakia will be banned due to an amendment to the Explosives, Explosive Articles and Ammunition Act signed by President Zuzana Caputova. The new legislation, effective from January 2, 2024, prohibits noisy fireworks, including firecrackers and flash firecrackers. It also sets specific time restrictions for other fireworks, allowing their use from 6pm to midnight on December 31 and from midnight to 2am on January 1. These fireworks can be used at locations at least 250 meters away from hospitals, nursing homes, social service institutions, quarantine stations, animal shelters, or animal rescue centers. Additionally, the law prohibits the sale of pyrotechnic articles in self-service shops not designated for that purpose, except for Formula 1 products. Exceptions are also made for authorized consumers, authorized by the municipality, to purchase pyrotechnics outside the designated period.
