Slovak villages planted over 33,000 trees

370 Slovak villages have planted more than 33,500 trees as part of the Zelené obce Slovenska or Green villages of Slovakia project since its start in 2018. By the end of 2023, 6,500 more trees should be added in the autumn planting in about 50 municipalities. The aim of the initiative is the conservation and restoration of biodiversity and ecosystems outside protected areas in Slovakia. The project's methodological manual contains a list of 35 tree species from which municipalities could choose.

With the national project Green Municipalities of Slovakia, the agency contributes to improving the quality of the environment. At the same time, the climatic, soil, water and landscape functions of ecosystems and the environmental function of the urban environment will be strengthened at a local level. The project is funded by the Operational Programme on Environmental Quality.
