On 30 June 1993, the Slovak Republic became the 31st member of the Council of Europe. This international organisation is dedicated to promoting human rights, democracy and the rule of law in Europe. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, it was one of the first international organisations Slovakia joined. Friday, 30 June, marks the 30th anniversary of this event.
