A cross-border ferry service between the Slovak village of Radvan nad Dunajom in Komarno district, south-western Slovakia, and the Hungarian village of Neszmely was launched on Thursday, with Regional Development Minister Peter Balik and Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto in attendance. Financed from the Interreg Hungary-Slovakia programme, a new ferry will operate on a regular basis as of Thursday. “It is extremely important for the Regional Development Ministry that we also see the results of EU funds," said the Slovak minister.
According to Radvan nad Dunajom mayor Lubomir Puchovsky, the construction of a wharf started in 2018. As he added, the project will bring families closer to each other, simplify trade and relations and contribute to tourism, as it connects cycling routes on both sides of the Danube River. The mayor noted that it is 42 kilometres from Radvan nad Dunajom to Neszmely by road, while the ferry travels only 800 metres and takes some five minutes. The ferry, operated by a Hungarian company, can carry eight cars and 80 people. Transport will be free of charge for the first two years.
