Mayor of Trebišov Marián Kolesár warned a boy not to bathe in the town fountain on Sunday and was subsequently assaulted by the boy's father, suffering a leg injury.
“When the mayor held the boy outside the fountain [as he tried to run away], the boy's father attacked and shoved the mayor in the arm. As a result, both the mayor and the boy fell into the fountain. The mayor suffered an injury upon impact that will require approximately 15 days of rehabilitation while the boy emerged out of the incident unscathed”, Kosice police spokesperson Jana Mésarová told the TASR news agency. A police investigator in Trebišov has already launched a criminal prosecution involving the crime of attacking a public official. “After studying the available evidence [the incident was recorded by town camera], the investigator will decide on the next course of action”, said Mésarová. According to a statement on the town’s website, the attacker was identified as a local man who despite being warned that he was “attacking the mayor and that bathing in the fountain is prohibited, gave the mayor a severe shove". The push toppled the mayor and boy into the fountain, with the mayor severely slamming his shin against the rim of the fountain.
