The Slovak Trade Association rejects any price regulation of the food market. At the same time, they support solutions and incentives for low-income groups. This was stated by Zuzana Holickova, Executive Secretary of the Slovak Trade Association. She was responding to the relevant draft laws submitted to parliament. According to her, the conditions for price regulation, including the powers of the pricing authorities, are clearly set out in the current Price Act. There is no valid reason for the state to interfere with market mechanisms. The association argued that the amendments proposed by the deputies would undoubtedly lead to harmful market distortions, as has happened in Hungary. Holickova emphasized that comprehensive analysis of the food market had been presented at the last government meeting, with all state authorities involved. They concluded that price regulation of the market is unnecessary and would be an unsystematic measure with negative effects on the functioning of the entire industry. The association considers the current regulatory proposals to be purely political in the context of the election campaign.
