Police investigation of power company should not endanger its sale

The police investigation at Slovenské Elektrárne (SE) should not jeopardise the possible sale of a 66-percent stake in the company, which the Italian group Enel plans to do. “Ultimately the buyer is interested in the assets, the company’s market potential, and the company itself”, said Slovenské Elektrárne Director General Luca D’Agnese in an interview for the portal vEnergetike.sk.

The Italians believe that the July police raid at Slovenské Elektrárne was not related to their operation in the plant. According to the Police’s statements, the raid was a part of an investigation related to the privatisation of the company. Slovenské Elektrárne is the largest power producer in Slovakia. In April 2006, the Italian energy giant Enel became its main shareholder with a 66-percent stake. The remaining 34 percent is in the hands of the National Property Fund, while the Finance Ministry executes its shareholder rights.
