On Thursday, a large fire broke out in the morning in a warehouse with polyethylene and pallets in the Bratislava satellite village of Rovinka. There were 700 tonnes of plastic and 1,500 wooden pallets in the affected warehouses.
Due to the thick black smoke from the fire, residents were advised to close their windows and restrict their movement outdoors during the day. The control chemical laboratory of the Civil Protection in Nitra detected elevated concentrations of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and a number of other compounds in 13 locations but they did not exceed the range of values that should adversely affect people.
The fire did not affect M.R. Štefánik International Airport in Bratislava. It operated without restrictions and all departures and arrivals were handled at the scheduled time.
