The Jan Kuciak Investigative Centre (ICJK) has been awarded the Press Freedom Award, bestowed by the German Free Press Media Association (MVFP). According to the head of the German Free Press Media Association Stephan Scherzer, the Jan Kuciak Investigative Centre team is an excellent example of independent journalism and an ideal continuation of Jan Kuciak's journalistic work. In 2018, Jan Kuciak and murdered Maltese investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia received in memoriam the German Publishers Award, the predecessor of the Press Freedom Award. Lukas Diko, Editor-in-Chief of the Jan Kuciak Investigative Centre stated that the free media is facing an unprecedented attack today, and if we don't protect the freedom of the media, we won't protect democracy and its values either.
