Reintroducing checks on Slovakia's border with Hungary would have no impact on reducing illegal migration, caretaker Interior Minister Ivan Šimko said in Parliament. According to the minister systematic measures as the harmonisation of visa policies are necessary. Šimko reported that the police had registered a total of 7,183 secondary transit migrants from the beginning of the year until May 31, while currently their weekly numbers reach 655 migrants. The minister said that Hungary has been asked to resume full application of the readmission agreement. Border patrols have been reinforced both in Slovakia and Hungary.
