MPs on Tuesday obliged Interior Minister Ivan Simko to appear before Parliament to report on the state of border protection, the number of illegal migrants crossing the borders, the manner in which they are screened and their origin identified, and measures to prevent illegal migration.
The motion to summon the minister was submitted by Independent MP Milan Mazurek. According to him, Slovakia's south-eastern border is crossed daily by many illegal migrants.
Simko is expected to appear in parliament on Wednesday afternoon.
The police previously reported that they have registered an increase in the number of illegal migrants in Nitra region, claiming that they have detained more of them in the first five months of 2023 than in the whole of 2022.
