The latest measurement of the trustworthiness of institutions in Slovakia confirms that the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) is once again the most trustworthy of the 14 institutions compared. 73.3 percent of respondents trust the SAV completely or rather. This is the result of a survey conducted by the Focus agency. TASR was informed of this by the Academy's spokesperson, Katarina Galikova. The fact that the SAV has been regularly at the top of the trustworthiness survey since 2016 is extremely satisfying, according to the chairman of the SAV, Pavol Sajgalik. "It means a lot that society appreciates the results of the SAV, which are presented to the public. This potential could be used by the Academy in the future, for example, to combat hoaxes and unfounded statements," he said.
Slovak universities also enjoy a high level of trust. 73.1 percent of respondents trust them completely or rather. "It is gratifying that at a time when there is a general decline in trust in institutions in Slovakia, Slovak universities, together with the Slovak Academy of Sciences, rank first in terms of trustworthiness," said Miloslav Bahna, director of the Institute of Sociology at the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
The least trusted institutions were the National Council of the Slovak Republic (fully or somewhat trusted by 20.6 per cent), the judiciary and legal system (33 percent) and large companies and corporations (34.2 percent). With regard to SAV, the long-term trend of a decrease in the proportion of respondents giving no answer to the question on trust in SAV is also encouraging. Since the 2016 survey, this proportion has fallen from 8.9 per cent to 5.7 percent of respondents. Among respondents who provided an answer to the question on trust in SAV, the proportion of respondents who trust SAV has risen to 77.8 percent. The survey was conducted between 24 and 31 May among a sample of 1,012 respondents.
