An additional €10 million will be earmarked for textbooks this year, Education, Science, Research and Sports Minister Daniel Butora said following the Government meeting on Monday, adding that he had agreed on this with Prime Minister Ludovit Odor as well as Finance Minister Michal Horvath. According to the education minister, the money for textbooks for the following year will be included in the draft state budget. Butora perceived the fact that the amount for the textbooks for the next school year 2023/2024 was insufficient for the schools.
The minister is glad that in this difficult situation they found an agreement with the premier and the finance minister, and allocated an additional package for textbooks. The Education Ministry published in May the amount of the contribution to educational publications from the state budget for the 2023/2024 school year. Textbook publishers and politicians as well as schools and analysts criticised the allocated amount.
